Here in Northeast PA we have a Folklore Society that meets almost always on the 1st Fri of each month at members' homes for a sing-around (except when the Chicory House in Wilkes-Barre is having a concert). It's all amateur and ranges from old and new folksongs (as found in Rise Up Singing), to storytelling, to just listening. Interested Folks should contact John Oakes Stringed Instruments at (717)254-6952 to find out where the meeting is. For $12 John will send a copy of our newsletter 'The Broadsheet' every other month and you'll be up on all the Mudcat-friendly events in N.E.PA. Also, the Rainforest Cafe in Tunkhannock, PA has an open-mike once in a while, but not on a regular basis.
