I have found that at regular sessions where the same tunes get played frequently then a 'standard' version will often evolve. What is new to me (after 40+ years of playing) is the idea that this should be formally discussed and agreed beforehand. I prefer to let things flow and see what emerges from the interchanges between musicians. Sessions should be creative rather than simply recycling material. However each to their own, of course, and if the people at the session are happy with this then who am I to disapprove?
