This is a song I discovered recently. It's one of the very first songs Tom Paxton wrote. I think it's a nice song - as good as the Tom Paxton classics like "I'm Bound for the Mountains and the Sea"... Link Here. Don't know if you'll like it?

PEPPERFOOT
(Tom Paxton)

Well, the people call me Pepperfoot in every oilfield town.
I always have a welcome, boys, as I go ramblin' round.
I never hit a city yet that I ain't left behind,
'Cause I got pepper in my shoes and travelin' on my mind.

Yeah, the people call me Pepperfoot - a very good name for me.
I spent my life a ramblin' man, that's the way I'll be.
So goodbye, little Miss Sarah, poor little love of mine,
There's no more work in this old town - there's a better town down the line.

Well, my mama called me Pepperfoot, my daddy called me son.
I started ramblin' at fifteen and now I'm twenty-one.
I've stacked a pipe on the midnight tower, roustabouted too,
And the only thing that I don't like is sayin' goodbye to you.

But the people call me Pepperfoot - a very good name for me.
I spent my life a ramblin' man, that's the way I'll be.
So goodbye, little Miss Sarah, poor little love of mine,
There's no more work in this old town - there's a better town down the line.

Well, the drillin' is over in your town honey; the boom has trickled out;
The holes are capped and the pipes are laid - it's time to look about.
They'll be another boomtown soon with gushers soakin' the air,
And if you want to find me honey, you're sure to find me there.

Oh, the people call me Pepperfoot - a very good name for me.
I spent my life a ramblin' man, that's the way I'll be.
So goodbye, little Miss Sarah, poor little love of mine,
There's no more work in this old town - there's a better town down the line.

Thanks to Robin for the transcription!
