They all unequivocally say that overal the army was well led and had the support of the people. Was the army well-led in the Battle of the Somme, do they all say? Unequivocally, without the slightest demur, in spite of hundreds of thousands of casualties, huge numbers of which were the upshot of tactical blunders? Not a single historian (sorry: Historian) ever criticised the generals, ever, for their leadership all the way through the war? That is not what you are implying, Keith, that is what you are saying.
