Marvellous singer and a lovely bloke with no side to him. When I lived in Sheffield my landlord was a big mate of his, they'd been in the cubs and scouts together, so Joe always looked him up when he went home. I remember one particularly boozy night with him that started in the Red House on Solly Street and ended drinking home brewed 'Old Walter' [named after the Archers' character Walter Gabriel whose catchphrase was 'Oh dear oh dear, oh dear !'] That was the first time I had ever drunk port and brandy as a 'warmer'. Not many white guys could sing with that blues/soul feel Joe had and his music will be remembered - another good man gone. RIP .
