At the begining of the 20th Century, people began adding syncopation to almost all types of traditional music. The plodding 4/4 and (sometimes 3/4 dance music) got a subtle lift. The Delmores Brothers actually swing a bit. They were Doc Watson's greatest influence as far as rhythm and harmony go. You can hear some boogie, swing and other modern affectations added to most modern music, even when it is called Folk.
