Poetry cannot be correct or incorrect, it can just be good or bad, by various criteria. Critics who insist on some formal correctness are called pedants. "We don't need no education" is perfect poetry, because it says exactly what it is meant to say. "Jesus, our savior, was born for to die for poor ornery people like you and like I" is horrible, no matter whether or not "like I" is a valid colloquialism in the targeted community: while Jesus descended, the author condescended - "ornery" people are not likely to feel respected.
