I first heard this song when Martyn Wyndham-Read performed it at the Derby Arms pub in Aylesbury, England circa 1984. I went out and bought his LP 'A Rose From The Bush' the next day.

Many years later I was trying to find the album on CD without success and ended up emailing Martyn via his website. He sent me the CD and a signed photo in the post from his home in France. What a lovely gesture.

Anyway 30 years later and today I finally visited Mannum. I now live in Western Australia and occasionally get to South Australia on business and this time made time to drive out there. A lovely little town. I went into the visitor information centre and was surprised to learn that they had never heard of the song. I played it on my iPhone for them and they loved it. Shearers was a big business in the town for many years and there are a number of references to it dotted around the town.
