I want to learn Fionnghula, and feel not the least intimidated by a language which I do not know.
Songs are for sharing and the inevitable discussions about meanings become invaluable cultural touch points. Nothing wrong with that. After seeing a phonetic transcription, the lyrics become recognizable. I learn something, and I share something, but as for nuance and subtlety, hit me on the head, because only native speakers might appreciate that.
Should anyone try to spell the nuances in this song out for me, it would be tremendously appreciated.
eg. When I asked a kilted guy on a Toronto street about the Robert Burns song I was having trouble decoding (Brose n Butter), he explained that "Hey! for the gardener lad, to gully away wi' his dibble" didn't mean he was digging a hole with his trowel!
