Black Dog is a very small village on the edge of Dartmoor near Pennymoor. It used to have a weekend sing that was great fun, egalitarian and eclectic. The pub the sing was held in, called the Black Dog, changed hands and the weekend sing moved around the local villages until it found a new home.

Like many other small villages it has a legend of a ghostly large black dog that appears infrequently to scare people.

The village also had a Black Dog festival with much dancing and singing and jollity. The black dog was paraded around the village. If you want to see what it looked like look up the Padstow Hobby Horses. I seem to remember that the black dog up for rehoming was a smaller version of them.
