Mary, I have no difficulty replacing my own batteries, and I've never found one that is difficult. The only difficult part is opening the back of the watch, which usually involves a semi-sharp knife to lever it off. You could cut yourself there, or damage the gold-plating.

The batteries that come on a card of various sizes aren't too long-lasting, though. About a year is good.
