I so wish I could be there for this gathering, but two trips to Chicagoland in a month is more than I can afford. Over Labor Day weekend, at the Fox Valley Folk Festival, there was a workshop tribute to Art. I had to miss that, too, doing a volunteers shift, but had a great chance to reminisce with Tom Kastle -who had been part of that workshop- at the fest party. It was gratifying to be able to go on at length about Art and the depth of his significance to Zoe Mulford, who didn't know Art. Dave Humphries chimed in. Putting him in the context of song finder, folklorist, source, & performer for her, we invoked the names of others who filled the same kind of niche like Lou Killen, Frank Harte, Tommy Makem, the Patons, Jean Ritchie. What gratitude we feel for having these fundamental folks who'e enriched our knowledge, understanding, lives, and hearts!
