A wet stormy day here so hids fine tae snuggle up wie a mug o hot chocolate and this lovely video from our northerly neighbours a Shetland lace is a knitted lace now I mesel hivna the skill but a full shawl is something to be treasured and often passes down from mother tae daughter through the generations.

I got the chance to return tae Shetland this year and spent four wonderful days rootin aroon on the main island. The landscape is rugged and free the folk are quiet yet if you tak time tae spik wi dem they are warm and generous. (That should give Maeve something to translate :) )

As a child on the edges of Glasgow I could never understand how ower peerie (In Orkney peedie i.e. small) Sheltie (Shetland sheepdog) could ever be of any use herding sheep. Having seen these small hardy sheep however it no surprise for an overwintered Shetland lamb weighs in at about 22KG compared to an overwintered Scottish Black face which comes in at about 40Kg.
