GUEST,Bill W Why the willow in All Around My Hat? (39) RE: Why the willow in All Around My Hat? 19 Jan 01

In support of the association of the willow with the theme of sadness and separation,it was often used as a motif on tombstones in the 19th century.I was just looking at some fine examples in an abandoned cemetary a few days ago.The scientific name of one specie of weeping willow is salix babylonica recalling the exile of the ancient jews to Babylon.
