Thank you for your perceptive comments, Joe. Yes, I can play the guitar well enough to be a subtle background for some of my songs. But I also like to sing unaccompanied, where my playing isn't good enough for that particular song, or just when I feel it sounds better that way. And yes, some good instrumentalists who have pleasant but not brilliant voices can give great performances by getting the balance right! It's true, there are no 'rules'. Just occasionally, a song heard at a local club can suddenly really move me ... and most often, I don't quite know why! Andy
