Re: Dick's comments about practising the accompaniment: When I'm learning a song, I usually have a look aat the words and tune, and get an idea of whether to accompany it, and what on. Then I learn the song while attempting to accompany it. After much repetition and swearing and growling, a performance emerges. I don't know how, but the accompaniment grows out of the song - I don't claim to have had much to do with it. Trouble is, half the time - especially on the harmonium - I don't actually know what I'm playing. Just relying on muscle memory. Weird, but it's what works for me. John Kelly.
