GUEST,christiwynne - Virginia Beach, VA Lyr Req: Swinging Along (Gladys Jacobs) scout song (8) RE: Lyr Req: Swinging Along (Gladys Jacobs) scout song 04 Jun 16

i know this is an old post, but i am ever so grateful to find it today!
i am 43; i lived with my mother (due to physical and emotional disabilities) for 15yrs til her passing march of 2015 (comp from breast cancer)...
she taught me this song when i was a teenager, maybe middle school; my whole family (parents, and i'm oldest of 4 girls) sings: church/school choirs, local theatre, and karaoke, lol! neither she, nor any of us girls were ever scouts - closest was my dad, who earned his Eagle in BSA, and was an assistant scout master for the BS troop at our church, but mom spent her youth summers at church camp where SHE learned it!!
none of my sisters ever had an interest in it, often just rolling their eyes at us, LOL...but i LOVED it; i have an affinity (and yes, even a talent, lol) for singing in rounds, and this has easily been one of my favorites! :D i have been sitting here, today, so very, very sad, that not only will i never sing it with her again, but i have never known anyone else (including my own long-time bff who grew up in GSA!!) who knew it or even knew -of- it!! so i found your post through a Google search; i didn't even know til a little while ago that it is from GSA, lol!!
i'm finding an unexpected comfort, knowing that it's not as obscure as i'd feared, so i can easily play it when i want, and that there really is a solid, established source for it; not something that she learned in nursery school, info that may have disappeared long ago, ha!
so THANK YOU for this post about a song that i've loved for most of my life; something that she and i both enjoyed together!
BLESSINGS to you!! <3
