I have known him long; even since he was Fred before he decided to be Karl. Marched alongside him on the first Aldermaston March playing guitar in his group - there was a pic of us together there on the BBC's first "Folk Britannia" programme a few years ago; reviewed alongside him, he for The Times & I for The Guardian, at first Edinburgh Folk Festival in early 1960s; knew both his wives, Betty & Gloria. "Ripe old age" someone says above. He was only 85: just a year older than me; how ripe is 'ripe' and how old is 'old'? Adieu, Fred -- old old friend! ≈Michael≈
