My Irish auntie Lily used to crochet those squares for blankets ceaselessly, without even looking. She always had a cigarette stuck to her lip and could talk at the same time. The ash used to get longer and longer while we watched fascinated. Eventually it would drop onto the wool. Her blankets stank of ciggies. She said it kept the moths away! |
