The voting system in America is so weird that there are many ways to fix the votes (one of which is not counting them for instance). Bernie had far more votes than Clinton but not the money to match. He stood down as the democrat vote was so split and fiddled that they were sure to lose if they didn't show a united front. Sadly they lost anyway.
