I turned on the TV this afternoon to find Bloke in the Corner, who used to post here on Mudcat (back in the days when Hull was the centre of the Mudcat universe), sitting in the champion's chair. For those who don't know, Countdown is an intellectual game show where clever people play with letters and numbers to produce the longest word or perform arithmetical calculations to meet a target number. Other than a small consolation prize for the loser, there are no prizes on offer except for the honour of beating your opponent. Lawrie won his game, achieving a commendable score in excess of 100. It was his third appearance. He will be back tomorrow in a bid to continue his winning run and become an 'octochamp'. I was pleased to here, when introducing himself on his first appearance, that he is still keeping up his singing and playing in local sessions. DC
