I was wandering round Dunham Massey today having a sing and a hum to myself and a little chorus came into my head and Ive been singing it all day..Turns out to be Macphersons rant. Now I ve only ever heard it sung by one person in my years of folkery and it was the guy who ran a weekly club at what was the Further Education Centre in Hulme.I can't remember this mans name but by heck did I used to enjoy his renditions. The club was held on the top foor ofthe old building. There were lots of wonderful singers there.People like Tony and Arthur Rosie Hardman and Mike Harding even popped in but ther was a core of people who just loved singing and as a 16 year old I was very impressed. There was also a guy who sang Woody Guthrie songs and that was an inspiration! |
