Had to add the '2' as the original thread was closed. You can search the original thread.

As we edge towards the 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge, I think of my Uncle Bill. I think of the horror he told me about. I think of the pride... yes, the pride, that a nation felt. Canada. And it still does. A small country in the British Commonwealth that turned the tide of the war. I think of many things. I think of the Cape Breton coal miners who dug the underground tunnels. I think of... I gotta stop because I heard stories from guys that were there and it makes me weep.

Vimy was the turning point in the war. Canucks made that happen. But Canucks then embraced something that has since been twisted into a glorification. When it is said "Lest we forget.", politicians and some others who lay wreaths say we are thanking the fallen for their sacrifice. Of course we do but that's not what 'they' want and that's not what "Lest we forget." means. "Lest we forget." means, "Let's never do this again." That is how we honour the fallen. To do less is to dishonour the fallen.

Thanks Uncle Bill. I won't forget.
