"What's a normal accent" reminds me of something my wife said years ago. She comes from Norwich originally but does not really have a Norfolk accent. Anyway she said that although she really liked Star Trek she thought it annoying that all the aliens had American accents. I asked her what kind of accents she thought aliens would have. She said that they'd probably speak like her as she doesn't have an accent. When I pointed out that although she doesn't have a regional accent anyone could pinpoint she did in fact still have an English accent. As soon as she opens her mouth people know she is English. However she was adamant that she does not have an accent of any kind.
