Dear Gerry, I would not be surprised if Dylan knew perfectly that the verses he was quoting are not by Charlie Poole but a parody. It's not the first time that Dylan misquotes on purpose. Do you remember his speech at the Grammy Awards in 1991? The quote that he attributed to his father was actually a commentary of Rabbi Shimshon Rafael Hirsch (the spiritual leader of traditional Jewry in Germany in the mid 19th century) to the Psalm 27 | |||
