The names for these gatherings seem to be regional Ceilidh, Hooley, Sing-song, seisiun, seem to be more "Celtic" related Kitchen party in the Maritimes Hoe-down, Hootenany(Hoot), jamboree (jam?) seem to be American There are also differences in nomenclature according to the activities dancing, singing, stories, food, tunes There's a local joke about a poster advertising a pot-luck meal followed by a gospel singing group "Bean supper!
