otters: Hello Bare, when you performed "Drop Kick Me Jesus," what was your inspirtation for that song? Bobby Bare: I didn't write that song, it was written by Paul Kraft. When Bill Clinton was elected President, there was a story in Newsweek, it said he liked Big Macs and fries and horn music because he is a sax player, and blonde headed women, red-headed women..., but his favorite song was "Drop Kick Me Jesus" by Bobby Bare. I haven't figured out if I'm flattered or not, but I play it every night.
That quote is from here: Live Fan Chat with the Old Dogs
I think Bobby Bare's version is the one I've heard, but I'm not certain, and have not yet found a sound clip to confirm.
