Thanks, Paul -- I'll definitely have to spend more time exploring your website. Looks great! The story of Duncan and Brady (1890) is the second song background in the 2015 book Hear My Sad Story: The True Tales that inspired Stagolee, John Henry, and other traditional American folk songs by Richard Polenberg. The book breaks down songs by the headings St. Louis, Lying Cold On the Ground, Bold Highway Men and Outlaws, Railroads, Workers, Disasters, and Martyrs. It gives the stories behind 27 songs as well as who wrote the song and who were the first to record it (I read the book with my iPad in hand so I could listen to YouTube videos of early and later recordings).
