A lot of it was protest-oriented - perhaps more than singer-songwriter in the UK and the US was - but it didn't have to be. Some of it used really high quality literary texts, which might have been taken as making political points or might not. It's not surprising Erdoğan doesn't like it. I wonder what song genre appeals to stuck-up reactionary control freaks? Perhaps he shares his Spotify playlist with Michael Gove.
