'This is a revolution': Saudis absorb crown prince's rush to reform Consolidation of power in Mohammed bin Salman?s hands has upended all aspects of society, including previously untouchable ultra-elite. The crown prince has managed to sideline many other princes and take additional powers to himself. The religious police have also had some of their powers stripped from them. He is trying to modernise the country. This would merely be a backyard spat if oil did not give these events a global significance. If the changes are not accepted by the rank and file life could become very untidy as the entire middle east finds a new equilibrium.
