Steve Gardham Bridgwater Town History Day 11 Nov 17 (5) RE: Bridgwater Town History Day 11 Nov 17 09 Nov 17

Would have loved to be there but I live a long way away in Yorkshire.
Yvette Staelens might just be acquainted with one of Bridgwater's more prestigious folk connections. The well-known ballad 'Bramble Briar/Bruton Town' very likely was set in Bridgwater and printed as 'The Bridgwater Merchant's Daughter' or similar in the middle of the 18th century. I have good reason to believe it would have been printed in Bristol about that time. If you get the chance you might ask her about it.
