In the 40s, 50s, you could get a goldfish in a jam jar from the rag-and-bone man, if you gave him things when he came on his rounds (shouting "ragironbo") and I also remember goldfish in little plastic bags as prizes at the fair. So I suppose you could have a goldfish in your pocket ... and add a verse to Lisa & Henry's song.
