Definitely no decent pubs round there, or in the "docklands" bit of the east end. Some that are good 'of their sort' if that's what you like. Greenwich, a couple of stops on the DLR, has some fairly decent and music friendly pubs; Stratford has a couple, away from the ghastly canteen smelling Westfield, but unless you pay for parking in a secure car park, expect a broken window on your return to the car.
