we sing to bond, we sing to release oxytocin, we sing because that is what we did before language was invented and it is part of our DNA now. It is far more useful than would appear in the age of world wide communication and language. The fact that people can make money out of it speaks volumes for its appeal, but hidden under that is the real value. I sing, when I can't dance. And dance has the same "bonding, oxytocin, DNA" aspect. It supported the cohesion of the tribe, and thus made homo sapiens more successful.
