The date this year is also the first Friday of Lent. I usually go to a local Chinese restaurant with two friends for lunch on Chinese New Year, but one of them grumbled that she won't eat meat on Fridays during Lent. I pointed out that the restaurant has many fish and veggie dishes on the menu. That did not appease her. However, trying to synchronize our schedules is difficult, and Fridays work for all of us. I don't know what we'll end up doing. If people around here are given dispensations for St. Patrick's Day (for the Irish-Americans) and St. Joseph's Day (for the Italian-Americans) why not Chinese New Year?
