GUEST,Al Lyr Req: I Like Molasses (and other molasses songs (48) RE: Lyr Req: I Like Molasses (and other molasses songs 05 Feb 18

The lyrics to the one I grew up with had three verses, and the refrain was the only thing that was sung. The verse lyrics were spoken.

We just called the song "'Lasses" (Molasses without the "Mo")

1. Now, nearly everybody's got a food that they like best;
Somethin' that they're fonder of more than all the rest.
Mine's just plain ol' 'lasses. I think they're the stuff!
I eat 'em night an' mornin', but I never get enough!

I like 'lasses!
I eat 'em in the summer and the fall.
Get 'em hot, and get 'em spread
'twixt two hunks of ol' cornbread,
Now, that's the way I like 'em most of all.

2. Grandpa's eyes are failin'. He can't hardly see.
What falls in his 'lasses not a darn care has he.
Grandpa's teeth are missin'-- every single one!
When he eats his 'lasses, he just smacks 'em with his gums.

He likes 'lasses!
He eats 'em in the summer and the fall.
When they get so full of flies
They look like raisin pies,
Well, that's the way he likes 'em most of all.

3. I went to see my sweetie, t'was just the other day.
She had supper ready. She bid me to stay.
Didn't have no taters, didn't have no meat;
A jug of 'lasses was all she had to eat!

She likes 'lasses!
She eats 'em in the summer and the fall.
When they trickle down her chin,
Shucks! I just lick 'em off again;
'Cause that's the way I like 'em most of all.
