Yes, our new microwave also beeps periodically if what's in it hasn't been removed. I like that feature 'cause, without it, I'll find those old cups of coffee too. I just don't understand the beep-when-opening-the-door thing.

And I don't like that the defrost function pauses midway to "allow you to turn over" whatever you're defrosting. I don't turn things I'm defrosting over. Maybe if I were defrosting a whole pig, but not two pork chops. So, I've taken to setting the timer for twice as long as needed. Then, when the microwave does its midway pause, the food's defrosted.

And, as far as I'm concerned, they could all do away with those food-specific presets like "POPCORN". The times preset into them never agree with the times specified on the products' boxes. The brand of popcorn we use nukes up perfectly in two minutes, but the oven's preset is for 3.5 minutes. I only use it if I'm in the mood for burnt popcorn and a smoky house.
