We were in the condo we'd rented in Maui. About a minute from finishing packing and getting out. One or two small things to pack at the most, up there on the 7th floor. And the power went out. I was told it was because of the weather in Massachu...Masash...Maine. There was a big noise, like a super-strength yard blower machine. I figured that it had tripped the circuit breakers. Nope! It was the building's emergency generators! We could safely move our luggage down the elevator instead of schlepping it down seven floors. In fact, two big generators were working, one for each side of the building. Our friends loaded their car (one of them was using a walker) and off we went for Kahalui and home. It would be nice if the Northeast wouldn't mess up the power in Hawai'i when there were snowstorms.
