Young Hannah lived on a mountain farm In lone and dreary spot Not a house in sight for miles around But the one her father got 'Tis New Years Eve at the Village inn There's a merry ball tonight The air is cold and frosty out But the hearths are warm inside Young Hannah waits with anxious eyes As well as anxious ears Then dashing up to the farm house door Young Charlie Slay appears Her mother says, "Now daughter dear This blanket around you fold For 'tis a dreadful night abroad And you'll catch your death of cold." Hannah cried, "Oh no, no, no." She laughed like a gypsy queen "If I wear that doggone blanket Ma I never will be seen." "I have my little cloak to wear It's lined you know throughout And have this little silken scarf To wrap my face about ?__________________ ____________________ ____________________ ____________________? ?_____________________ She froze just like a monument And had no power to stir He spoke her name again and again But she answered not a word So Charlie turned the horse around And soon they reached the door Poor Hannah being frozen Fell exhausted to the floor Her father wept a bitter tear At seeing her this way He knelt right down and stroked her brow And tenderly he did say, "Get up offen that floor Hannah Them hogs has gotta be fed Why they ain't the ones to do the chores With you aplayin' dead There's pigs and geese in the parlor And and the dog's layin' in your bed So get up offen that floor Hannah Them hogs has gotta be fed."
