I used to use the grapeshot method where you buy 12 packs (Dunlop Ultex or Clayton 1.0's) and keep them scattered around the place but now I use a form of Backwoodsman method which is a bit more modest in price. I buy Dunlop Prime 1.4 large triangles which cost about 2 bucks a piece and my frugal nature has trained me to insert the pick between the strings whenever I finish playing an instrument and consequently I haven't lost a pick in a good long while.
