I didn't hear the news of Nigel Denver's passing until now. I never saw him perform, but I well remember him from back in the day, (and the day would be more than 65 years ago) when he used to come up to the the little village of Scourie on the west coast of Sutherland, and spend his school holidays staying with his aunt, our neighbour Peggy MacLean He had a school friend who also used to come and stay with him in Scourie, none other than Alastair McDonald, who also rose to prominence in the folk world. Nigel and Alastair and my elder brother were the "three musketeers" and I, being four years younger, was very much the junior gopher, tolerated and allowed to tag along.
