Here's a new posting, albeit recorded over a year ago. One of the trials I did with students. We had sung halyard chanties in various fashions on this voyage, sometimes varying the number of crew on the line and the tempo. Each time the upper topsail yard was hoisted its full range, albeit it is a vessel in on the smaller end (111 feet) but still a common size for the mid-19th century classic chanty period. Anyway, this particular style worked out as most efficient, taking only 6.5 verses as compared to roughly 10 that it takes to hoist a topsail yard with a more lethargic song and crew. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he4lmq-EgTc
