I tried to answer this morning but Mudcat was hanging, so here it is now: Public Radio and Public Television used to get a lot more tax dollars than they do now, but they still have a huge "public" component as far as contributions from the public. They're my number one source of news. The New York Times, the Washington Post, I grew up reading the Seattle Times, and the Herald in Everett (now a McClatchy paper). Professional journals from universities and scientific fields, where peer review is part of the process. If I click over to Google News I additionally look for the posts from Reuters, the AP, etc.
