This post MIGHT inaugurate page 1150 on this thread. In response to the Shakey Bill stuff. When I saw the word "odious", the writer who actually came to mind, and the period of literature, was 20th-century Englishwoman Georgette Heyer with her revival of Regency novels. In which the protagonists -- including some strong-willed women -- go around saying that something is "all a hum", or something else is "the outside of enough," and some woman will invariably express her indignation with: "Odious, odious man!" Which usually means that she is going to fall into romance with said man.
