For the benefit of those who haven't come across this before (and with apologies to those who have): Sandwich is, as you know, a town in the English county of Kent. About a mile to the south of it there is a village by the name of Ham. About a quarter of a mile further south there is a road junction, with a sign famously proclaiming: HAM SANDWICH
