I made an attempt to transcribe this song without even reading what guest MVS posted, and I am pleased to see we agree pretty closely. But MVS must have been listening to a different recording than I did, because the verses are in a different order, and some inconsequential words are different. RICHMOND BLUES As recorded by Cephas & Wiggins on "Richmond Blues" (2008) I'm gonna find a bulldog; I'm gonna shuffle(?) the greyhound. Gonna use these dogs to run my good gal down. I'm gon' use these dogs just to watch me while I sleep, Just to keep them men from making that early creep. I was standing down in Richmond on a corner near Broad and Main. Up walked two police, said: "Son, what is your right name?" And I told him that my name is stamped on my shirt. I'm a one-pole(?) lover, sure ain't got to work. My little gal went away; didn't even write me. Got my mind all worried like water in the deep blue sea. Then I'm going, going uptown; I'm gon' talk with that chief of police. That little gal in trouble, sure can't find no peace. Just as true as birds, you know, flock in skies above, You know life ain't livin' if you ain't with the one that you love. Then I wrote one line and I laid that pencil down. My heart struck silent; tears come rollin' down. Now, uh-huh, uh-huh, you know dogging ain't right. Now if you gonna dog me, I'll run both day and night. Now, uh-huh, uh-huh, I'll ... [unintelligible]. You know, two men lovin' you; one of us has got to go. And I feel like snappin' my pistol in your face. Now, in some graveyard be your restin' place. Now, a graveyard, graveyard, it's a lowdown dirty place. Lie flat on your back, throw mud all in your face. Now, I'm gon' drink muddy water; I'll sleep in a hollow log. Ain't gonna stay here, woman, and be treated like a dog. That's why I was standing down in Richmond on that corner near Broad and Main. Up walked two police: "Son, what is your right name?"
