I ran across this interesting quote in the Los Angeles Herald, July 03, 1910, Page 4, near the bottom of column 1:THE CAT CAME BACK Bacon—Did you ever try to lose a cat? Egbert—Oh, yes, I hit upon a plan which I thought would work. I wrote a note, inclosing $10, and tied both about the cat’s neck. The note read: “Finder may keep both the cat and the money.” Bacon—And how did it work? Egbert—The cat came back the next day with another note tied on its neck. The note read: “Don’t need the cat, but can use the money. Please send $10 more.”—Yonkers Statesman The same story appeared as a “filler” in several other publications the same year. A clever person could probably develop this into another verse.
