Jazz ain’t my forte either, but if you are trying to emulate a diminished chord with double stopping then just two notes in isolation might sound too discordant, unless others are playing the whole chord in accompaniment. The other non-melody note that you go for would probably be the one best implying the transition in the chord line, eg. c# since the chords before after are C and Dm.
