"My granny died of pernicious anaemia, and I was told she was made to eat raw liver. I couldn't understand why she had to be 'made' to do it!" When I was a sprig, my mum suffered badly from anaemia, and she had to eat half a pound of raw liver, and drink a bottle of Mackeson, every day. I remember her screwed-up face as she struggled with the liver, but she thoroughly enjoyed the Mackeson - especially as, being a Salvationist and having signed The Pledge, it was 'forbidden fruit' which she was able to justify!
