We now may have a fourth elephant. Production! Who will remember Phil Spector or George Martin? Yet they had a massive influence on the music. As Ake pointed out, Rafferty was shit at production so he did not make it as big as the Beatles who had the sense to stick with the right producer. Every facet of music seems to be important.
